50 Minutes

I topped last week's long run by completing a 50 minute (about 5 mile) run this morning. Unfortunately, this was my only run this week, due to my work schedule and the heat and humidity. I felt really tired by just over 30 minutes, but I pushed myself to keep going. I didn't feel great and didn't run very fast, but I did it. Hopefully I will be able to get in 3 runs next week. We'll see!

Back up to 4 Miles

I did a 40 minute run on Saturday. I believe this is the first time I have done 4 miles all year. I need to build up, because per my latest training plan, I need to do a 6 mile run next week. It will be tough, but I'll give it a shot!

Running Again

After a 3 week and 1 day layoff, I ran 20 minutes over lunch today. I felt pretty good considering it had been so long since I last ran (due to work, vacation, and laziness). I now have a plan I hope to follow up to the big day. We'll see how well I am able to stick with that!

Latest Update

I have gotten a little off track (or more off track) due to a little cold I had for the past week. I didn't feel very well last Wednesday, but I decided I would still do a short run to maintain some of my endurance. I did about 2 miles outside.

I hoped to do a 4 mile run on Saturday, but I had to stop after 2 miles because I felt so weak and achey. I went home, showered, then took a nap on the couch.

I think I am feeling almost 100% today, but I plan to take today off (i still felt pretty bad yesterday) and hopefully give it another shot tomorrow. Fortunately, I still have just over 3 months until race day to build up my distance. I want to do at least one run in the 10 to 11 mile range by the beginning of September so that I can give myself a decent chance of running the entire 13.1 miles on the big day.

I'm Still Here!

I know I have been extremely negligent in updating this blog. However, I am still around and I am still training to run my second half marathon in September. I haven't been following a very regimented training plan of late, but I am working on keeping a base level of running ability and starting to slowly build up my distance.

A week ago last Thursday I ran 35 minutes, which is my longest run in May. Last week, I did 30 minute runs on two days, Monday and Thursday. I hope to do a bit longer run tomorrow, but we will see how the weather holds out.

I hope to come up with and start following a more regimented training plan soon, but a lot of that is going to depend on how I am able to fit my long runs in between work and kids' activities.

Latest Update

I have run 3 times since my last post. Last Friday, I ran 3 miles outside. Monday, I ran a little over 2 miles outside.

I hoped to run outside today, but let's just say it was a little cold.... However, I did run for 20 minutes on an indoor track.

23 Minutes

After a few days off due to a cold, I ran outside again today. I did 23 minutes, including a big hill section. I felt pretty good considering I am still feeling the lingering effects of my cold.

2.5 Miles

Last Thursday, I did 25 minutes outside. I didn't feel really great before I ran, so I kept it to a flat course.

Three Miles Outside

I ran outside today, doing 30 minutes. This included the longest uphill portion I have done this year.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

2 Miles

I ran outside once again today. This time I only did about 20 minutes. I did some uphill running, so it was still a pretty good workout.

30 Minutes Outside

I ran for 30 minutes outside on Friday. This included a long uphill portion near the beginning. Overall, I felt pretty good. It is nice to be outside again, as it sure beats running in circles (or ovals)!

Outside Again

I was around 60 degress today, and while I was not able to run over lunch, I did run outside after work. I only ran about 2 miles, but that included running up a large hill, so it was still a pretty good workout.

30 Minutes More

I ran again last Thursday. I didn't plan on pushing my pace, but I ended up doing about a 9:15 mile for the first mile, and I was still able to complete 30 minutes (which this time was certainly over 3 miles). I was sore afterwards, but happy I had run well.

20 + 25

After a number of days of not running due to work demands and snow days, I have run two days this week. I ran 20 minutes on Monday and 25 minutes yesterday. I was sore after both runs, but glad that I had run.

Tough 3 Miles

I did a really tough 3 miles yesterday. There were many times I really felt like stopping, starting from the end of the first mile on, but I pushed myself to keep running. I just kept reminding myself that I will feel like walking many times during the half marathon, but I will need to fight that urge and keep running.

3 + 2

I ran another 3 miles on Monday, then ran 2 miles on Wednesday. I had hoped to go a bit farther on Wednesday, but I just didn't have the energy. I plan to run again tomorrow.

Three More

I ran another 3 miles last Friday. I didn't experience any pain in my legs.

3 Miles...2 Miles

I was able to run 3 miles (30 minutes) last Wednesday. I felt fine the entire time.

After a number of days off due to my schedule, I ran again today, this time doing 2.5 miles (25 minutes). After about 12 minutes, I started to get a slight cramp in my right calf. I ran through it, and after a minute or so it did not really bother me for the remainder of the run. It is a little sore now, but I am not going to stop my training because of it.

25 More

I did another 25 minute run yesterday on the indoor track. I don't feel sore today like I did after my runs last week. I hope to complete a 30 minute run either this week or next.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

25 Minutes

I ran 25 minutes (roughly 2.5 miles) today on the indoor track at work. I felt OK most of the way and didn't have any pain, so it was a good start.

A New Year

I signed up for the 2010 Air Force Half-Marathon on New Year's Day. To start my new training plan, I ran 2 miles today in 18:36. It wasn't very far, but I haven't made it to the gym to work out in a few weeks due to work. Fortunately, I have almost 9 months to try to build up to 13.1 miles.
